"Allow indexing service..." on exchange mailbox store disks
I'm creating some new mailbox databases on my server 2003 / exchange 2007 server. While the disks are still clean, and before I create the mailbox databases should I uncheck the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" for the drive in question?I know exchange disks shouldn't be compressed, but should this be unchecked? The indexing service on the server is already disabled, but should I unchek the "Allow indexing..." box anyway?

Hi, The Indexing Service is disabled and "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" is checked by default. So it will not index the disk except you enable the service. Unchecking and checking, the result is the same. You can leave it as the default setting, as index service can occupy the system resource. Thanks, Elvis

Thanks Elvis,After more of a read around, that was the conclusion I was reaching, but I've gone for the belt-and-braces approach and unchecked it anyway!I was mainly interested in whether there was any "best practice" or any gotchas in this area relating to Exchange but I think I might have been over-thinking it!Thanks again for your help though.Phil.
